The Greenville Lions, lead by Perry Roberts
and Max Peterson take the table and the championship.

Montgomery Rebels, Graceville Oilers, Panama City Filers, Fort
Walton Beach Jets, Pensacola Dons, and Selma Cloverleafs completed
in 1957.  Graceville and Panama City were declared co-champs
when storms cancelled the championship playoffs.  Among the
stars was Graceville’s Bob Wellman, who batted .404 and hit 30
homers in 82 games.

Six teams competed in 1959:  Montgomery Rebels, Selma
Cloverleafs, Dothan Cardinals, Pensacola Dons, Fort Walton Beach
Jets and Panama City Fliers.  Max Alvis, Larry Brown, Doc
Edwards, and Johnny Lipon all played in Selma which was affiliated
with the Cleveland Indians.  Montgomery had a good team with
pitchers Dick Egan and Jose Mejias leading the way.  Cal
Ripken was Pensacola’s catcher, and Bo Belinsky and Steve Barber
pitched for the Dons.
