Here’s what’s new this month:

Graceville’s Boys Of
Summer:
Originally published in 1977, in Grassroots South Magazine, Jesse
Tullos gives a great overview of baseball in Graceville. Also, a team  photo
of the ’54 Oilers has been added to the Team Photos Index

George
Stepanovich:
A brief article about a virtually unknown kid who got into 3
games with Pensacola.

A Poem by Dan Taylor:
Dan Taylor writes poetry,
including poems about baseball.  He has written a poem about Jack Clifton
which you will find in the Ottis Johnson & Jack Clifton section of the Hall
Of Fame,

Jack Clifton & Ottis Johnson wing of the AFL Hall Of Fame:
Finally
open, all the articles and interviews related to these players
is located in the section of the Hall Of Fame,

Recent article in the
Donalsonville News:
Bo McLeod, profiled in the Donalsonville and the FAG
League? article, must have been inspired by Lane Harris’ visit because he wrote
a new article for the News about the good old days of Seminole baseball.
It also contains a great photo of Neb Wilson and Charlie Grant together. Check
it out in the Articles section.

1950 Dothan team photos:
John
Beasley, Edsel Johnson, and Charlie Lewis all worked together to send us two
photos of the 1950 Dothan Browns.  Both shots were taken at the same shoot,
but are different.  One great bonus to these shots is that Ottis Johnson
is in both, confirming that the John O. Johnson that the record books have playing
for Dothan in 1950 is actually Ottis Johnson.  Also, notice Neal Cobb
in the back row of the photos.  In the 1950’s section of the Photo Section.

1953
Graceville Team Photo:

Two
new articles on starting a team:
In the articles and profiles
section, two articles, one about Graceville and the other about Donalsonville,
describe the two cities’ efforts the obtain an AFL franchise.  The Graceville
article contains a rare photo of a Graceville semi-pro team which featured
future majoe leaguer and Red Sox owner, Haywood Sullivan.

I recently stopped by the Ty Cobb Museum in Royston, Georgia.  It’s small, but
nicely done, and it costs only a couple bucks.  If you’re driving down
I-85 near the Georgia / South Carolina border, take some time out and visit the
museum
AFL in the news….in 2002!!!
Thanks Lane Harris and Bo McLeod of the Donalsonville News
Major Leaguer # 102 found !
Lamar « Doc » Bowden found another AFL player who
played in the majors: John Grodzicki

Interview with Edsel Johnson:
Edsel
Johnson, brother of Ottis Johnson, gives us a fascinating look at small
town baseball and his brother.  John Beasley and Edsel’s son, Edsel, Jr,
also contribute to this great interview.  Look for it in the Interviews
Index or in the Ottis Johnson / Jack Clifton section of the Hall Of Fame.

There’s
lots more that has been added recently so browse around!!
