I was very happy to see Graceville included in your pictures and info. I thought
that you might find it interesting to know that Sportsmans Park also served as the home of the local high school football team for a number of years. The park also may have been used as well for baseball by the highschool but I’m not sure. I was born and raised in Graceville. I can remember very well going to football games at the old stadium when I was very young probably about 1974 or 1975. The new high school was built in 1976 and the new football stadium was also built about that time. I can also remember many people in town talking about the Oilers(before my time). Mr. Morrow who owned the team was very well known to everyone in town. He was well regarded and made the best peanut brittle I’ve ever had. Mr. Morrow would make his brittle and give it to people in town for special occasions. He always left a bag for my mother on her birthday,etc. My mother and Mr. Morrow’s daughter in law taught together for years and were very good friends. |
