The AFL Hall of Fame & Museum

In Ken Brooks’ book, « The Last Rebel Yell », he describes a visit to the town of Cricklewood,
Alabama, home of the Alabama-Florida League Hall of Fame. Brooks’ enjoyable description of the mythical town and museum, has always made me wonder, « If there really was an AFL Museum, would anybody come? ». The answer would probably be « yes » if the admission was free and you didn’t have to travel far to see the exhibitions. All we would need is a place to house the plaques, documents, and memorabilia, and surely baseball fans would come. After all, people drive hundreds of miles to see the Cadillac Ranch or the Giant Ball Of Twine, so why not a Class D baseball museum?. In reality, there probably will never be a physical AFL Hall Of Fame, but right here in the cyber world where anything is possible, we’re ready to open the doors to our virtual museum. So, with a nod to Mr. Brooks, I welcome you to the Alabama-Florida League Hall Of Fame & Museum. As you can see, we’ve housed the Hall in a beautiful old building on the outskirts of Dothan, the hub of the AFL. The Hall Of Fame Gallery is housed on the first floor and the second floor serves as a museum. So park your car and c’mon in, it’s air-conditioned and you can get a « co-cola » with peanuts in it at the snack bar. |
